About the almanac

A companion to the civilisations of the outer rim: their worlds, histories, institutions and individual lives.

Where and when

The setting lies in the outer rim of the galaxy, commonly shortened to the rim. Its inhabited planets and moons are rim worlds. Serev, Aunel and Vannor are separate stellar systems within that region.

The accounts describe the period before Aveline’s departure. Tarsenne’s reference year is the opening of SR 683, with completed-year accounts for SR 682. Imperial correspondence uses Compact Reckoning, CR 412. These epochs do not establish a universal calendar conversion.

Find your way

The complete contents opens every entry and section. The Library searches all 53 entries. World registers lead to local conditions and settlements; citizen lives return to the same households as their circumstances develop.

The Atlas contains 29 map views, from system relationships to named streets. Search places, choose a scale, zoom, pan and switch available layers. Select a marker to read its entry or continue into a local map. A copied map link retains the visible area, selected place and layer choices.

Population estimates identify their coverage. A city belongs within a wider population total. Inhabiting a region does not establish citizenship or allegiance. Physical registers distinguish local days from standard hours and orbital years from civil dates.

Tarsenne’s world chart uses spherical Mercator with an 80° cutoff. Other world, regional and street plans are explicitly schematic. Their adjacency and named routes describe local relationships; they supply no reliable journey distance. A zoomed regional window is a view of the same chart, not an independently surveyed map.
